Professional Summary
Daisy Quarm earned her B.A. at Mt. Holyoke College and her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Michigan. Her teaching and research interests focus on race, class, and gender. She edited Women in the Workplace: Effects on Families (1984), which included her essay, "Sexual Inequality: the High Cost of Leaving Parenting to Women." Other articles include: "Power in the Family" in the Journal of Marriage and the Family; "The Effects of Gender on Sex Role Attitudes: An Examination of the Contradiction Between College Student Studies and National Public Opinion Polls," in Sociological Focus; and "Legal Reform and Social Change: the Case of Domestic Violence," in Northern Kentucky Law Review. She teaches a graduate seminar on gender and two undergraduate courses: "Women, Culture and Society," and "Gender and Social Policy." She has worked with several community groups, including Women Helping Women, Alliance for Reproductive Rights, and the Central American Task Force.
