Professional Summary
Dr. Carolette Norwood is an assistant professor in the department of African and African American Studies and an affiliated faculty member in Women’s Studies and Sociology at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Norwood’s research mainly focuses on women and development initiatives in Africa, namely microcredit. Her areas of specializations are reproductive health/rights and women’s empowerment status. She is currently engaged in a project that evaluates the effects of women’s Microcredit participation on HIV awareness and prevention strategies in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Domestically, Dr. Norwood’s research focuses on interracial unions, namely interracial fertility, spatial segregation and recently, the impact of HIV/AIDS on women in minority communities. Dr. Norwood earned a PhD in Sociology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As an Andrew W Mellon Fellow at the Université de Montreal, Dr. Norwood gained specialized training in African Demography. Dr. Norwood earned a masters degree in Liberal Arts with concencentration in African Studies, a Bachelors in Sociology and a Bachelors in French from Louisiana State University.
