Research Interests
'The Psychodynamics of Leadership' was published in 1998. We used a psychodynamic systems perspective to better understand organizational life in the midst of environmental uncertainty. The relationship between management and employee is undergoing a shift towards more participatory arrangements. The definition of power, stakeholders and the organization is changing. It is not enough to appoint women and minorities to leadership roles. Different frames of reference, an openness to vulnerability and knowledge of social systems will help leaders release creativity in the future. 'Dynamic Consultation in a Changing Workplace' was published in 2000. This book offers an in-depth view of complex modern institutions. The authors connect the internal psychological landscape of executives, managers and employees to its external manifestations in the workplace. By describing and analyzing this rich case material, the text provides ways of understanding how consultants work to facilitate organizational transformation. I continue my research on adult development in the work lives of men and women by studying the dynamics of organizational consultation from a combined psychodynamic and social systems perspective.
