Professional Summary
Robert M. Stutz received his Ph.D. in Psychology in 1966 from Wayne State University in Detroit. He has worked at the University of Cincinnati ever since.
He has served as Director of Undergraduate Studies, Director of Graduate Studies, and was Head of the Department for 18 years.
His original specialization was in Physiological Psychology and for many years he studied the phenomenon of rewarding electrical stimulation of the brain, attempting to determine where in the brain addictive drugs (and other rewards) exerted their pleasurable effects.
He has served as Chair or Member of over 120 Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations.
In the early 1970's, he broadened his training to include Clinical Psychology. His research and clinical interests shifted to psychological and vocational assessment, with particular interest in disability issues, especially the psychometric predictors of vocational success in disabled persons. He and his students have been collecting clinical research data on these issues. The research data are collected as part of his responsibilities as Director of the Behavioral Neuropsychology Clinic in the Department of Psychology.
For almost 20 years, Dr. Stutz served as Field Psychological Consultant for the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation and Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired. Through his work in the Behavioral Neuropsychology Clinic, he has continued to work with those agencies, and others, having provided psychological and vocational assessments for over 3200 consumers with all types of disabilities.
