About the Department
Greetings from Department Head Steve R. Howe
The Department of Psychology offers training in psychology and in organizational leadership. For psychology students, we offer the BA degree and the PhD. For organizational leadership students, we offer a BA degree and a Masters in Human Resources (MHR).
Graduates of both undergraduate degree areas are well-equipped to pursue either advanced training in a graduate or professional program or to work in a wide variety of jobs in the public, private, and governmental sectors. However, because our department does offer such broad training with applicability to so many diverse pursuits, it is critical that students develop some idea early on of what kinds of post-baccalaureate paths they may wish to follow.
Students are strongly encouraged to become active participants in either Psychology Club or Organizational Leadership Club. The officers and faculty advisors of these organizations offer many programs that help students learn about careers paths and extra-curricular training opportunities in the department.
In addition to its undergraduate degrees, the department offers two paths to a graduate degree. The MHR program is aimed primarily at employed human resources professionals who need additional training and certification to take their careers to the next level. The doctoral program in psychology is a highly competitive program that draws students from around the world who are interested in doctoral-level training in experimental or clinical psychology. Please contact me at steven.howe@uc.edu or any of our five program directors if we may answer specific questions pertaining to our programs.
