John D. BrolleyInstructor, Undergraduate Director Professional SummaryMr. John Brolley, M.Phil. is the department’s Undergraduate Studies Director and a Field Service Lecturer who specializes in Bible, Semitic languages, and the ancient Near East. Before joining the department, he served as a graduate assistant at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion’s Comprehensive Aramaic Lexicon Project and also directed the Religious Studies program in UC’s College of Evening and Continuing Education. He is currently completing his doctoral dissertation at the HUC-JIR, a critical edition and analysis of a collection of Syriac Christian magic charms at Harvard University’s Houghton Library. His work with those manuscripts was featured as Houghton Library’s Reader’s Choice exhibition in June 2004. He is co-author of the “Synagogue” article in the forthcoming edition of the New Interpreter’s Dictionary of the Bible. Mr. Brolley’s teaching interests include biblical studies, angelology, and classical Hebrew.
