Scholarships in German Studies at UC
Nearly every student in the Department of German Studies has received financial awards to help fund his/her education. The department and its affiliated organizations annually award over $25,000 in scholarship aid to German Studies students. A list of scholarships is available in the German Studies office, including a special scholarship for incoming majors. Or, you can contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies for more information.
Some of our annual prizes and scholarships are:
Helga Daley Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students pursuing the study of language and culture in Germany. Awards range up to $500.
Lena K. Suter Award
This award recognizes outstanding achievements and outstanding promise in study of German language, literature, and culture. Awards range up to $1,000.
Taft UG Thesis Fellow
One gradauting senior each year is awarded $3,500 in funding to help with the completion of his/her thesis research project.
VDAC College Student Exchange
One UC student each year is awarded a scholarship to study at a University in Germany. This award covers tuition and includes a stipend for housing, food, and other expenditures while abroad. This award is sponsored by the Verband der Deutsch-Amerikanischen Clubs.
Lessing Society Book Prize
Each year this society, which is housed in the Department of German Studies recognizes a junior for its prize, which contains the name of one of the greatest thinkers and writers in the history of Germany.
Distinguished Emeriti Prize
This prize is given in honor of four of our most distinguished emeritus professors (Erhard Friedrichsmeyer, Jerry Glenn, E.P. Harris, and Karl Obrath).
Department of German Studies Award
Students nominated by faculty members for outstanding achievement in courses, then voted on by the entire faculty to receive special distinction.
Poll Prize
Named for Professor Max Poll, who came to Cincinnati to start the German Department, this prize is awarded to a senior graduate who has had a particularly distinguished career at UC with our highest honor. Awards range up to $1,000.
