Author of Die Satirische Kurzprose Heinrich Bölls (1981), His teaching and research areas are the 19th and 20th centuries with primary interests in satire and Post-WWII prose. He has written articles on Rabener, Kleist, Keller, Schnitzler, George, Thomas Mann, Hesse, Johnson, Böll, Weiss, and Grass. Co-founder of the Concordia College Language Villages in Minnesota, he has also published on foreign language camps and co-authored, with graduate students in the department, an article on literary translation.
