German American Studies

Tour Over-the-Rhine with German-American historian Dr. Don Heinrich Tolzmann

Welcome to Over-the-Rhine, the historic old German quarter of Cincinnati. Even today, the German-American history is easy to see in this section of downtown. Crossing the Erie Canal, today Central Parkway, you enter into the German-speaking district of Alt-Cincinnati! This site highlights this important section of town and hopes to draw attention to the treasures located there so that they may be preserved and the history never forgotten. Take the tour!

Allgemeine Information über Over-the-Rhine (auf deutsch)

Also, see the Over-the Rhine Chamber of Commerce Website, housing a history of Over-the Rhine.

Questions concerning Over-the-Rhine and its German Heritage should be directed to the Department of German Studies.
