Environmental Resume Preparation:
DO's and DON'Ts
DO
Have accurate content
Omit first person pronouns (I, me, my)
Use short forceful phrases (not sentences) that begin with active verbs in the past tense
Make sure that punctuation, grammar, and spelling are perfect
Allow adequate margins and white space between paragraphs for emphasis and neatness
Accentuate the positive
Emphasize accomplishments Prepare a rough draft
Edit and re-edit
Have someone else critique your resume
Double check the final copy
Credit your achievements
Tailor your resume to each job application
Limit your resume to one page
Indicate that "References will be furnished upon request."
Look at resume examples provided by the ESP Internship Coordinator or look at other resumes shown on related Internet websites
DON'T
- Be pompous or wordy
- Take ten lines to describe something that can be described in two lines
- Include geographic preferences or limitations unless absolutely necessary
- Include anything negative
- Let someone else prepare your resume
- Include unnecessary data
- Include hard-to-read, fancy, too big, or too little, and casual typefaces
