Adult Learners
Arts & Sciences Adult Learners
Are you thinking of beginning or completing your liberal arts degree? Are you wondering how to achieve such a task as a mature adult facing challenges much different than a recent high school graduate?
Rest assured. McMicken College offers baccalaureate degree programs which can be earned in the evening hours or by combining evening, online and weekend courses. (See programs in Psychology, Organizational Leadership and Interdisciplinary Studies/Family Studies for more information). McMicken understands the need to schedule courses that meet the demands of working adults and parents. Whether delivered during days, evenings, online or on weekends, learning is enhanced through systems that provide flexibility, customization, fellowship and innovation.
Adult Scholars Accelerated Program (ASAP)
Qualified students can complete entire courses by combining independent learning with limited weekend in-class sessions as part of the Adult Scholars Accelerated Program (ASAP). A&S ASAP weekend courses are all offered at Raymond Walters College. For a list of ASAP weekend courses offered each quarter, see "ASAP and Weekend Classes" in OneStop's schedule of classes.
Online Courses
What do students studying human rights in Mumbai, India have in common with day care workers in Alabama or Cincinnati students strolling down Clifton Avenue listening to their lectures on an Ipod? They are studying and learning via technologies that deliver General Education courses from UC's McMicken College of Arts and Sciences.
A&S provides General Education courses online not only to its own students but also to students across and beyond the campus. Adult learners are finding that Gen Ed Onlne provides them with the access and efficiency they need to help meet the college's and university's General Education requirements.
Whether in the humanities, the social sciences or natural sciences, A&S provides quality distance learning courses backed by a world-class faculty and supported with the technical and library resources only available at a research intensive university such as UC.
In addition, the department of Psychology offers a substantial number of its major courses online and on the weekend, enabling Psychology students to complete a significant portion of their program in a non-traditional setting. Please note that online sections are designated as section 707 for registration purposes.
Quarterly online course offerings can be found under "Distance Learning" on the OneStop Web site. You can also learn more about UC's distance education program on the main UC Web site.
Transfer and Lifelong Learning Center
Beginning or returning to school can be intimidating. UC's adult learning center assists you as you make this challenging transition. The Adult Learning Center is your support system as you explore the many career options and educational alternatives available to you. They can provide you with one-on-one assistance from registration through graduation, help you to build self-confidence, explore opportunities and make informed decisions about your educational and professional careers.
