MS Statistics

The Master of Science in Statistics program prepares students for careers as statisticians in industry and government as well as for entry into a Ph.D. program in Statistics or Biostatistics. This highly successful program with an enrolment of over 40 has placed students in statistical positions at many of Cincinnati's major employers such as the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, Procter and Gamble, A C Nielsen Bases, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

The MS in Statistics is a two year program. In the first year students take the nine credit sequences Mathematical Statistics 521-523 and Applied Statistics 531-533 and 6-9 credits chosen from SAS Programming (534), Time Series (571), Reliability-Survival Analysis (572), Applied Bayesian Analysis (573), Non-Parametric Statistics (574), Robust Statistics (575), Topics in Applied Statistics (576) and other electives. In the second year students take the 12 credit sequence Linear Models 613-615 and other required and elective courses including one quarter of Statistical Consulting. Some financial aid for students in the MS program may be available in the form of tuition waivers and graduate assistantships.

While a strong mathematical background is preferred, we welcome applications from students with an undergraduate major who have completed the prerequisite courses: multi-variable calculus, differential equations, calculus-based probability, and linear algebra.
