Venice Study Tour

Itinerary | Photo Gallery | Links

In our latest study tour, Professor John Drury took a group of sixteen to a land renowned for romance and excess--where Casanova was imprisoned for seducing the wives of other men and where Napolean ended the Republic, which had stood for over a thousand years. A city with walls of Tintorettos and streets of water-- VENICE!

This 9-day excursion to the land of gondolas and luxury was enhanced with day trips to some of the surrounding lagoon islands--including Torcello, Burano, Murano, and San Michele (the island cemetary where Joseph Brodsky and Ezra Pound are buried). In the city itself, high points included visiting the Doge's Palace & prison chambers, the Jewish Ghetto (setting for Merchant of Venice), Browning's home, and the Madonna dell' Orto.
